This review is full of spoilers so if you have not finished the original Fallout 3 you have been warned.

I am a Fallout super freak and so far I have loved all the expansions Bethesda has put out for its epic post-apocalyptic role playing game Fallout 3 on the PC and Xbox 360. The original Fallout 3 gave us hundreds of hours of radioactive fun as we explored the Capital Wasteland in an attempt to find our father. Now those PS3 gamers who love roaming the Wasteland can play all five of the downloadable expansions. Below is a break down on all five packages with a score for each one.

Broken Steel adds a few new things to the original game such as a new level cap of 30 which takes a very long time to reach, new perks, new achievements, weapons, gear and some new enemies to obliterate. The ramp up to level 30 is a hard one and something most gamers will shout for joy once they hit it for the first time. New monsters start popping up around level 24, or so, and these include a freakishly nasty Radscorpion and some new Ghouls, Enclave Soldiers and more. The new perks are great and range from Grim Reapers Spirit, which activates when you kill an enemy in V.A.T.S. you regain all of your AP instantly and let me say this is nice. Another one is puppies where your faithful companion Dogmeat resurrects as a puppy and you can get him back at the entrance to vault 101. Which is nice because he died very soon after I got him.

Fallout 3 Mothership Zeta abducts the player and brings them to an alien ship high above in Earth’s orbit. You will no longer be running around the Capital Wasteland fighting mutants but now you will be fighting Aliens, their robot sentries and their diabolical created abominations as you attempt to escape the ship and return home. There is a few new weapons and some new friends to meet as well, but the best part of this content is the overall change to the setting because sometimes fighting mutants just gets boring.

Operation Anchorage is a bit different than your normal Fallout 3 quest because this time you enter a virtual reality program and take part in a battle against the attacking Chinese military at the start of the original war when they were invading Alaska. What makes Operation Anchorage fun is this is more shooter than most of the quests and at the end of the quest the rewards are well worth the price of the content such as a stealth suit and some wicked power armor.

The Pitt is my favorite expansion for Fallout 3 because it is a great RPG quest with tons of areas to explore, new weapons and items to use. The story allows you to play your evil side or your good side to the max by freeing slaves or leaving them where they are. Doing what is right may not be so straight forward so remember to save your game often and enjoy the creepy level design and memorable characters.

The story of Point Lookout is a bit different as you find that a river boat has arrived in the Capital Wasteland and it is willing, for a price, to take adventurers to Point Lookout where they can find fame and fortune. Just before you get on the boat you actually receive a small quest from a frantic mother who wants you to find her wanderlust influenced daughter who most likely is hip deep in trouble in Point Lookout. Of course like all good Bethesda role playing games you can take the quest or not it has very little to do with the actual game story but helps direct you around the actual swamp as you explore. Bethesda did say this expansion was scarier than the full game or other content expansions but to be honest it is not, Left 4 Dead could be considered a fright fest compared to what you will experience in this game.

This is possibly the biggest expansion for Fallout 3 for the number of quests and just how much you will be running around completing little quests and exploring the landscape. But where Point Lookout differs from all the other expansions is the amount of detail in little things spread across the map such as the downed plane and the submarine. That is all I will tell you right now, but once you see them you will know what I mean.

If you own Fallout 3 it is worth buying all of the expansions from the Playstation Store or via the Game of the Year Edition. Great RPG’s have been rare this year on the PS3 and Fallout 3 with all of its DLC is one of the rare exceptions.

Pros

+ Adds a lot of great quests and gear to use
+ Expansion of game to level 30 with Broken Steel is fantastic
+ Breathes new life into the game for those who ran through it the first time

Cons

- Some of the content might seem pricey for just a few hours of gaming
- Not the best place to see the expansions at their finest
