DJ Hero: 1.2 Million Served

With the massive barrage of Hero games that launched last year and the subsequent scaling back of said Hero franchises this year, it’s fair to question how well the franchises are doing. In DJ Hero’s case specifically, it had a large hurdle to jump right out of the gate as it was a pricey bundle. Surprisingly, it has done very well... According to a blog post from Activision’s Dan Amrich, DJ Hero has sold 1.2 million units. The turntable-spinning title was cited as a success while defending the performance of Blur, Activision’s much talked about racer that released in May to small but misinterpreted sales numbers (I say that because many folks tout it as a failure at only 31,000 units sold without regard for the short span it was on the market when those numbers were tallied). However, we all know DJ Hero wasn’t as successful during its launch window as Activision may have wanted. It was one of those games that needed a good buzz, some decent price reductions and time. Now that many gamers already have a turntable peripheral in their homes (1.2 million to be exact), DJ Hero 2 should tell the tale of how well received the franchise is when the investment is the same price as any other AAA title.
