
Last week at Ubidays, Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot revealed his ambitious plan to place Ubisoft at the centre of CGI movie production, as well as branching out to new game genres and TV productions. This morning, Game Focus learned that Ubisoft’s Quebec City studio will increase its animation and CGI business and will become the official headquarters to the company’s recently announced entry into 3D videogames.
In many interviews given at Ubidays, Guillemot said that initially Ubisoft would "focus on animation rather than full-blown movie production, with film production running alongside games development and simultaneous release dates."
Last week , Ubisoft confirmed that they were working on a 3D game based on James Cameron’s 3D movie Avatar .
In 2007, Ubisoft announced plans to expand upon its operations in Quebec City by establishing a new CGI production center focused on CGI film making. The new production center was focused on producing short films based on Ubisoft brands. The Ubisoft Quebec City studio opened its doors on April 2005.
