The digital media, games and tech companies in Ontario received a boost from the Ontario Government when it was announced today that 1.15 billion dollars was set aside for companies who create jobs, use "green" manufacturing processes and who move or create a location in the province. Businesses that apply will get a response within 45 days of applying. Offers of tax incentives and cash payments will be made available to qualifiers shortly thereafter. With this, not only companies that work in Ontario can save up to 60% but the province hopes to become a dominating force in the video game market. In 2006, the industry only generated $70 million in revenue for the province. Currently there are around 850 small to mid-level developers based in the Province, the most notable is Digital Extremes known for their work on Unreal Tournament and lately Dark Sector and the PS3 version of 2K’s Bioshock.
