Battle Brews on Direct2Drive Over Modern Warfare 2

Direct2Drive, IGN’s online distribution service, is refusing to sell what will likely become the best selling game of the year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. According to a report at Gamesindustry.biz , the cause of the boycott is the inclusion of Steamworks. The Valve software is being utilized in the game for auto-updates, anti-cheating measures and more. Direct2Drive’s official stance is that it feels consumers should not be forced to install a "Trojan Horse." One can respect the stand that Direct2Drive has taken, especially considering the title in question. But just as quickly, one has to wonder whether they are making a mistake with the game already breaking records.
