Rumor: Star Wars Battlefront 3 Assets Hidden On Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City Disc

Star Wars Battlefront 3 has been in a sort of development limbo for years now. Once the property of Pandemic, the series moved to a new developer when the company was sold to EA. It found a new home with Free Radical, where it progressed as far as a playable pre-alpha before development was halted for financial reasons. The team at Free Radical was absorbed by Crytek and went on to develop the multiplayer portion of Crysis 2, leaving Battlefront 3’s fate a mystery. Rumors have been circulating ever since, although nothing concrete has ever been discovered. Until now, that is.

Fansite Battlefront3.net posted a series of images clearly related to Star Wars that they supposedly found in the files of Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City. Most of these images are simple loading screens, although one is a particularly frightening facial texture for Luke Skywalker. This all starts to make a bit more sense when you take into consideration the fact that Slant Six, the developers behind Raccoon City, were at one point rumored to be working on the Battlefront sequel, although nothing was officially confirmed. The rumor makes sense though, given the company’s history with the third person SOCOM games on PS3 and PSP.

This all begs the question, is Slant Six currenly working on Battlefront 3? Perhaps not. One particularly prominent rumor suggests that Slant Six abandoned Battlefront 3 for one reason or another, and that development has recently moved to Spark Unlimited, the developers behind the disastrous Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. VG247 inquired with Spark about their involvement in the next Battlefront game and were told that the company is "working on a sequel for a well-known sci-fi franchise," but that "all aspects must remain secret."

This is all extremely cryptic, but for the time being it seems as if Battlefront 3 has slipped through the hands of another developer and possibly into those of Spark. Will fans ever get the sequel that they’ve been clamoring for? You’ll know as soon as we do.

The Forest: Exclusive Game Focus Interview

Earlier this week, Ben Falcone and Anna Terekhova, two of the three main developers of Endnight Games’ The Forest responded to some questions I had about the project and provided some insight into the development and what comes next.  I asked everything from whether or not The Forest would be released on the Xbox One or Playstation 4, what the developers were most worried about before release on Steam, to whether or not they could disclose any more details about The Forests ending.

Marking The Mid-Point of 2014: Highs, Lows and Hopes

Here we are at the half way point of 2014. According to the Chinese zodiac 2014 is the year of the horse; the wood horse. It is to be a year of conflict; wood will fuel the fires and lead many to clash headlong into battle. How fitting it is then that my video game highlights, disappointments, hopes, and dreams for the year are directly in conflict with one another: Lightning quick interfaces vs a lack of new-gen experiences, game costs vs value, PlayStation vs Xbox.   Read more

CFL Mode in Madden 15? Please Make it Happen EA.

Maybe it’s my Canadian pride and the fact that Canada Day is just around the corner, but I want a CFL football game.  For you folks out there who don’t know what the CFL is, well it’s a sports league, it stands for: Canadian Football League.  That’s right, Canada has its own football league, and trust me, it’s a good one.  So good, in fact, it deserves its own video game.   Read more

DLC Talk: Dishonored - The Knife of Dunwall

Dishonored: The Knife of Dunwall is an impressive little bit of DLC. I should emphasize “little” though, as it is a relatively short experience. Just when the story seems to get going it ends - or, rather, it “kind of” ends.
