Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
The Professor Layton series is one of the truest definitions of a cult classic. The series has spawned more than five games in Japan and has been one of the top selling franchises there for years. Yet in North America, the first two games, while well received, have not been given the same love as some of the other Nintendo-published titles. Thankfully, even with its under-the-radar success, the third game in the series, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, is coming soon and after playing...

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
When the Nintendo DS came out in 2004 (it’s already been 6 years!?) it brought with it a wave of new and wholly original games that excited gamers in ways never before possible. With the system getting on in years, that supply has dwindled drastically. That’s why I was so excited when I first laid on eyes Capcom’s Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. There is an irresistible charm to the puzzle-adventure game that fits Nintendo’s dual-screened handheld perfectly. It...

Okamiden: Chisaki Taiyou
Okamiden is the DS follow-up to the much loved Wii and PS2 title Okami. The unique 2006 game focused on wolf-god Amaterasu in her quest to restore life to the land and in the process received many comparisons to the Zelda series. With this in mind, you could say Okami is to Twilight Princess like Okamiden is to Spirit Tracks. As explained by one Capcom representative, Okamiden takes place approximately 9 months after the original, yet still isn’t considered a full sequel. The...

Puzzle Quest 2
I have Puzzle Quest to thank for being a great entertainment alternative to the stench emanating from people next to me on the bus. I admit, I ended up putting it down after what felt like hundreds of hours of sliding gems and capturing monsters - it was just too much. Now, Infinite Interactive is doing something that is poised to suck me back in with Puzzle Quest 2. The first Puzzle Quest had a large overworld map that players had to use to travel between questing areas and strongholds. The...

Professor Layton & The Diabolical Box
Back at GDC in March we were glad to hear that US gamers would get to experience the second game in the Professor Layton series, titled Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box. It was available on the show floor at E3 and I took full advantage of the 10 minute demo more than once. Those familiar with the first game will feel right at home here as absolutely everything that made The Curious Village so enjoyable is back. This time around, the story revolves around the mysterious Elysian Box...

Scribblenauts
If you have played a side-scrolling platform game there has been times when you thought to yourself ‘wouldn’t it be a lot easier if I had item X to do Y?’ Well with 5TH Cell’s upcoming Scribblenauts for the Nintendo DS, you have the chance to do just that. After reading so many tweets from others attending E3 about this quirky stylus game, I had to check it out during the last day of the show. That morning I rushed to the Warner Bros section of the Expo and was quickly...
