Assassin's Creed III: Liberation - 8.0
I know what you’re thinking. Another dumbed down console port for a Sony handheld? When are they finally going to learn? Well, dear friend, you may want to rethink that statement, as Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation offers anything but. In fact, the game is completely separate from its home console counterpart, instead offering an entirely exclusive campaign adapted to the young Vita. The question remains: Is it any good? For this portable adventure, Ubisoft Sofia has decided...

Gravity Rush - 7.1
If one was to look at the available titles for the PS Vita, the ones that could be counted as a “must own” are few and far between. Rayman Origins, Mortal Kombat, LittleBigPlanet, Lumines, Uncharted, and a handful of others is all that owners of the fancy new piece of tech can brag about...at least until this holiday season. One title that made the list is Gravity Rush, which is why, even though I was a bit late to the party, I was still very excited to finally pop it into my...

Mortal Kombat - 8.6
After the success of last year’s Mortal Kombat on consoles, it made a lot of sense for NetherRealm and Warner Bros. to port the game to the Vita. With the only real fighting game competition on the handheld a port of the similarly celebrated Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, there was plenty of room for Mortal Kombat to come in and establish itself as the go-to fighter on the Vita. By including virtually every last tidbit of content from the original retail release and subsequent...

FIFA Soccer - 8.6
FIFA Soccer is arguably one of the most enjoyed and acclaimed sports titles of this current generation. It made a lot of sense for EA to release a Vita version of their popular sports franchise to coincide with the system’s launch earlier this year. While it’s typical to see sports titles go through some growing pains when adjusting to a new operating system, FIFA Soccer bucks that trend almost entirely. With a nearly note-perfect recreation of the console version of FIFA, EA has...

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - 8.6
Bringing a fighting game to the Vita could have been a disaster. Handhelds are typically not suited for the fighting genre. Concessions often have to be made in order to replicate the controls on the smaller system. Thankfully, the Vita version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 shows that this handheld is much different than everything that has come before it. Virtually a pixel-perfect port of the console version of the game, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on the Vita is exactly the (portable)...

Rayman Origins - 9.0
Rayman Origins released last year for consoles, and was met with critical acclaim. A platformer worthy of the praise it received, Rayman Origins was a true throwback that relied on simple mechanics and solid level design. There were no fancy tricks; just beautiful animated-style graphics and tried-and-true gameplay. Now a few months later, Rayman Origins finds itself ported to the Vita. Nearly a perfect clone of the console version of the game, Rayman Origins on the Vita is another reminder...

Dungeon Hunter Alliance - 5.6
Dungeon Hunter: Alliance had the perfect opportunity to be the leading role-playing title on the Vita console during launch. With no competition whatsoever, there was a clear path to being the top contender. Sadly, the Gameloft hack-and-slash RPG is its own worst enemy. With mind-numbing gameplay, as barebones a story as possible, and a lack of a powerful presentation, Dungeon Hunter: Alliance ends up being nothing more than a grinding snoozefest. Dungeon Hunter: Alliance puts you in the...

Asphalt: Injection - 6.4
The Asphalt series is synonymous with handheld gaming. Nearly every portable gaming device has some version of the Gameloft racing series available. Asphalt: Injection brings the franchise to the Vita for the first time, and the results are less than exemplary. While it’s certainly a competent racer with a somewhat impressive amount of cars, the presentation and execution leave much to be desired. Asphalt: Injection’s lengthy Career mode is likely where you’ll be spending...

Michael Jackson The Experience HD - 6.6
Ubisoft has all but cornered the dance video game market in recent years, so it came as no surprise that they would release a Vita version of Michael Jackson The Experience at launch. While Michael Jackson is still one of the most revered musical icons of all time, the Vita game bearing his name just doesn’t live up to the legend. Michael Jackson The Experience on the Vita will have you feeling less like the King of Pop, and more like the guy who insists on drumming his fingers on his...

Lumines Electronic Symphony - 8.7
The Lumines franchise has always been an addictive puzzle game experience. Few games are as revered for their soundtracks and style as they are for their core fundamentals. Though it has been a while since a Lumines title has appeared on a Sony handheld, Electronic Symphony arrives without missing so much as a beat. Despite not changing up the formula too drastically, Lumines: Electronic Symphony is a perfect reminder that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…just make it...

Uncharted: Golden Abyss - 8.0
Both fans and critics alike can’t seem to get enough of Sony’s Uncharted franchise. Launching a new Uncharted game alongside the brand new Vita was a no-brainer. Of course, there was a bit of cautious optimism from fans. Naughty Dog wouldn’t be developing the title, and would instead hand off those duties to Bend Studios. Converting the Uncharted experience couldn’t have been an easy task, especially for a studio who isn’t the originator of the property, but...
