Rumor: Star Wars Battlefront 3 Assets Hidden On Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City Disc

Star Wars Battlefront 3 has been in a sort of development limbo for years now. Once the property of Pandemic, the series moved to a new developer when the company was sold to EA. It found a new home with Free Radical, where it progressed as far as a playable pre-alpha before development was halted for financial reasons. The team at Free Radical was absorbed by Crytek and went on to develop the multiplayer portion of Crysis 2, leaving Battlefront 3’s fate a mystery. Rumors have been circulating ever since, although nothing concrete has ever been discovered. Until now, that is.

Fansite Battlefront3.net posted a series of images clearly related to Star Wars that they supposedly found in the files of Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City. Most of these images are simple loading screens, although one is a particularly frightening facial texture for Luke Skywalker. This all starts to make a bit more sense when you take into consideration the fact that Slant Six, the developers behind Raccoon City, were at one point rumored to be working on the Battlefront sequel, although nothing was officially confirmed. The rumor makes sense though, given the company’s history with the third person SOCOM games on PS3 and PSP.

This all begs the question, is Slant Six currenly working on Battlefront 3? Perhaps not. One particularly prominent rumor suggests that Slant Six abandoned Battlefront 3 for one reason or another, and that development has recently moved to Spark Unlimited, the developers behind the disastrous Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. VG247 inquired with Spark about their involvement in the next Battlefront game and were told that the company is "working on a sequel for a well-known sci-fi franchise," but that "all aspects must remain secret."

This is all extremely cryptic, but for the time being it seems as if Battlefront 3 has slipped through the hands of another developer and possibly into those of Spark. Will fans ever get the sequel that they’ve been clamoring for? You’ll know as soon as we do.
