French strategy game developer AGEOD, well known for AGEOD’s American Civil War, has merged with UK rival Slitherine to become part of the Slitherine Group which also includes American strategy game developer Matrix Games.

AGEOD’s primary task will be to further develop the AGE engine for use on various platforms and to increase its overall quality.

JD McNeil, Chairman of the Slitherine Group, gave some insight as to the cause of the merger.

"We always keep an eye on opportunities to improve and increase our reach to real gamers. Ageod’s core values have always been close to our own and this merger just seemed such a natural step for us all. Together the three companies in the Group are much stronger, we are now able to share resources, ideas and plans for the new generation of titles that our audience is crying out for. I am sure our fans will be just as excited by this news as we are."

AGEOD plans to adopt Slitherine’s e-commerce and copy protection methods in the near future.

So what do you think strategy game enthusiasts? Are you excited by this merger or do you think AGEOD should have stayed a seperate company?
