SingStar Country

After reviewing three SingStar games in the last 6 months (with more to come), Sony London puts me back behind the mic, only this time with cowboy boots and a hat but sadly no Alan Jackson moustache.
Here’s our review for SingStar Country.
Gameplay
As always, the SingStar games are simple and pretty straight forward. You start to sing into one of the microphones by following the horizontal grey bars, which function similar to a musical stave, with corresponding lyrics displayed at the bottom of the screen. From there, the game recognizes your pitch, tone and rhythm and will then be able to give you a score depending on how well you performed. At the end of the song, your score is broken down and you’re given a rank like "Amateur" or "Hit Artist."
If you have played previous versions of SingStar, you will find the same modes: Pass the Mic mode which allows you to share mics with your party of friends (up to eight people), so you can all sing at the same time, Duet Mode where you and a friend (or significant other) can sing different parts to the same song and Battle Mode where you can compete one-on-one to see who can sing the best. Once again, this SingStar game is compatible with the EyeToy camera allowing players to see themselves singing and take screenshots for later viewing. If you’ve got other SingStar discs, you can swap them in or out at the song selection screen without having to restart the console.
Here’s the list of the tracks featured on Singstar Country:

The game still features 30 tracks and has been a standard on all SingStar games. So don’ expect this number to increase any time soon.
Now, country music has always been a unique music genre because everyone loves it one way or another but no one will actually scream it. It’s a hidden pleasure and I see this SIngStar game as a cool addition to the long runing franchise. If you never bought a SingStar game for your PS2 and you’re looking to buy your first, this might not be "THE" compilation to get at first but it’s definitely a noteworthy addition to your collection. Personally, I’m not a huge country fan but I have to admit that I had some fun singing most of these tracks, especially after playing the least interesting SingStar PS2 game last month (Pop Vol.2). I could have used some Shania Twain, Billy Ray Cyrus & Garth Brooks though...
* Microphones still respond well to game mechanics
* Good pricing for the software-only version
* Great party game
* Still no compatibility with other microphones
* Complete pack is a bit expensive for first-time buyers
* Still 30 songs, not bad but...
